After Liverpool demolished Arsenal 5-1, I expected the punters, who supported the Merseyside club, to totally rip into our Gunners supporting customers.
However, nothing happened. Nothing.
Maybe, like us all, they just couldn’t believe what they had witnessed – I mean 4-0 up, in 19 minutes, against the then Premier League leaders, is not a regular occurrence.
My landlord warned me, though. He said: “I’ve been in this business a long time and if there isn’t any banter after that sort of result, then expect a big response in a few days time.”
He’s my boss so I gave him the respect and listened but in my head I was ridiculing him, I mean that result is old news and Liverpool and Arsenal have moved on.
How wrong I was.
When I opened up the tavern, this morning, the whole place had been covered in posters. I’m talking everywhere. I couldn’t see the floor or walls.
At the time, I couldn’t see the funny side because I would be the one clearing it all up but now, despite being an impartial member of the tavern staff, I did find the poster amusing.
