It’s the transfer that everybody is talking about.
Juan Mata is on the verge of completing a shock move to Manchester United from Chelsea for a reported fee of £37 million.
Nobody quite saw this one coming and probably not Mata himself.
But you wonder whether the Spaniard will be having doubts, having watched United suffer yet another embarrassing defeat last night.
The Carling Cup semi-final defeat to Sunderland saw United’s season reach new lows last night.
Not just because of the fact a team second from bottom of the Premier League came and dominated possession at Old Trafford.
Not just because of David De Gea’s howler.
But because their potential new signing had to witness what was arguably the worst penalty shootout in history.
United lost 2-1 in the shootout, with Danny Welbeck and Phil Jones failing to hit the target from the spot, and Adnan Januzaj and Rafael having their weak efforts saved by Vito Manone.
This is how we imagine Mata’s contract looks after witnessing that farce last night!
