Arsenal ace Per Mertesacker knows all about London travel, and decided the easiest way to travel to Wembley for Germany’s friendly with England yesterday evening was via the tube.
The German captain found himself in the rare position of being stopped by an underground ticket officer whilst en route, who went about his business of checking whether the German captain had enough money on his Oyster card to travel.
And unfortunately for all us England fans, Per had indeed remembered to top up, and was allowed to continue on his merry way to Wembley.
If only he had been stopped, as it was he who headed the only goal to send Roy Hodgson’s men crashing to their second defeat of the week, this time at the hands of their bitter international rivals.
Another example of ticket officers causing nothing but trouble!
