I’m sure you all remember me telling you about the Football Transfer Tavern’s Ballon d’Or event, a few days ago. It was a huge success and we’ve already pencilled it in the diary for next year.
Like anything that happens in football, once the initial reaction and passion subsides you have a chance to reassess the whole scenario.
This, lets call it, the reassessing phase usually happens when the punters are winding down with their last pint of the night before the stumble home.
A few pointed out that Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t actually win a major tournament in 2013 where as Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery won the lot, yet was never really considered a genuine contender.
A Chelsea punter, who continually wears his blue tinted glasses, is adamant that Eden Hazard should’ve been on the three-man shortlist.
However, I pointed out to him that the Belgian international had in fact already won an award that night.
