The Football Transfer Tavern’s fantasy football league table is getting to the business end of the season and, for once, I’m actually in with a shout of taking home the trophy. We actually had a cup made out of several old Jack Daniels bottles, looks quite cool actually.
The reason behind my good form is my choice to have Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard as captain over the last six weeks or so. Many of the punters mocked my choice, saying that the England international plays a lot deeper now and isn’t what he used to be.
In fairness, they make a good point but, unbeknown to them, I was privy to some inside information from a regular who is a police officer.
Apparently, his police unit are currently trying to bring down an illegal betting match-fixing ring that orgnanises a certain number of penalties to be awarded in a game.
The policeman described the leader as Northern Irish and said they know he used to work for Watford, Reading and Swansea City but since then they’ve lost track of his movements.
I know I should have told them who he was but the lure of the cup was just too much for me…
