Where on earth did Adnan Januzaj come from?
The 18-year-old Manchester United wonderkid was unknown at the start of the season, and now he’s got the whole country fighting over him.
It’s been an incredible week for Januzaj, which started with a two goal performance at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light to earn Manchester United three crucial points in their battle against relegation!
Then midweek saw him become the centre of attention once more, following comments made by England midfielder Jack Wilshere.
I am really interested to know the thought process of the head of England’s head of communications Adrian Bevington when deciding which player should sit the pre-match press conference. I imagine it went something like this.
“Jack, you’ve had a good week. It’s not like you’ve been caught smoking or anything, and you’re the closest thing we have to Clarke Carlisle. Go and speak to the press ahead of England’s huge World Cup qualifier. And handle the sensitive issue of what defines Englishness while you’re at it. What could go wrong?”
Quite a bit in actual fact. As Wilshere’s controversial comments over the possibility of Januzaj one day playing for England seems to have sparked war, and inspired the new, and slightly depressing story: ‘Januzaj: The Boy who broke football.’
Thanks a lot Jack.
