Here in the Football Transfer Tavern, it has been quite a common joke to suggest that Sir Alex Ferguson could well come back ‘downstairs’ and get his beloved Manchester United back on top form.
Now it seems that someone else shares that view, with our landlord showing us a hilarious viral image of the legend on his phone. The conversation has been suggested for us as well. Some witty so and so thinks that Fergie is on the phone to current Red Devils boss David Moyes, noting that he cannot come back and deliver the famous half-time ‘hairdryer’ treatment as he must be enjoying his retirement too much!
Over his pint, one of our punters notes that the hairdryer might be exactly what some United players need right now. Their dismal performance against rivals Manchester City was embarrassing by any standard. It has of course led to questions asking if Moyes is actually up to the job. Not only this, but people have been wondering if Fergie could even make a shock return.
Well judging by his phone call in this viral picture, that will not be the case. As our barmaid points out, should his former side lose to Liverpool in the Capital One Cup tomorrow, that may well plunge the Red Devils’ pride into an almost unknown territory! Given Fergie once confessed how much he enjoyed knocking Liverpool off their perch, to lose to them twice in a couple of weeks would not please him one little bit.
Whilst golfing, taking time out in New York and embarking on a book tour may be in the Scot’s diary for the next few months, United fans here in the tavern would like to see him a bit more at Old Trafford. In the dug out preferably.
