There is something magical about a Champions League night down at the Football Transfer Tavern.
Didier Drogba’s return to Stamford Bridge encapsulated the punters last night, whereas tonight everyone is wondering whether David Moyes will be collecting his P45 on his exit from Old Trafford.
The first-leg against Olympiakos was one the strangest nights my landlord and I have ever witnessed in the tavern.
The bar was rammed with United supporters, they were arriving from 6pm and come kick-off we had a queue longer than Arsenal’s wait for a trophy. The weird thing was, though there was no atmosphere. None.
I know Phil Jones’ face doesn’t spark much enjoyment or excitement but you’d still expect the Red Devils to be eagerly awaiting any tie, especially a European one.
Anyway, my shift ended 10 minutes ago, so I’m hitting the highway and heading home. I’d go the scenic route home if I were a Red Devil…
