I was beginning to worry about the mental state of the Manchester United supporting punters in the Football Transfer Tavern.
There’s no denying that this Premier League season has been worse than any of them – and us – could’ve envisaged in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
Despite their drop from the upper echelons of the Premier League, they should still be able to rile themselves up for a big European night. However, even before Bayern efficiently dispatched of David Moyes’ side in the Champions League quarter-final, they were a subdued bunch.
Therefore, you can imagine my surprise, when I came in for my shift today, to find the tavern draped in United scarves, while the jukebox blared out ‘The Red Flag Flying High’.
In amongst the noise and bodies of drunk United fans, I found my landlord seeking five minutes refuge in our wine cellar. Apparently, Moyes announced an impromptu open top bus tour and it is passing right by the tavern’s doors.
