Manchester United supporters have been having a tough time of late in the Football Transfer Tavern. Ninth in the Premier League during David Moyes’ first season in charge, United now face the very real prospect of missing out on Champions League qualification.
Moyes needs a saviour and there have been some suggestions in the tavern that he should give Paul Scholes a call. Although looking at the latest picture to reach the bar it seems he already has!
The 39-year-old former England international hung up his boots at the end of last season and after 499 league appearances for the Red Devils we thought that we had seen the last of the great on the field.
In fact the only time he’s been seen in recent weeks was scoring from his own half in a recent 7-a-side game. Perhaps Moyes also saw the video of the Manchester United icon and was straight on the blower?
On the viral image Scholes has 37 missed calls from David Moyes, and after ignoring them it appears that Moyes’ assistant and former team-mate of Scholes Phil Neville was also trying to get in touch with the legendary midfielder.
And even Roy Hodgson has been on the phone possibly trying to get Scholes out of retirement for the upcoming World Cup which have to admit sounds likely.
Maybe at 39 it is time for Scholes to continue to ignore these calls for his return and instead enjoy life in his slippers.
And yet he’ll probably still be an improvement on Tom Cleverley and Anderson in the United midfield!
