We are a sucker for interesting stats at the Football Transfer Tavern, although one has emerged that is unlikely to please Tottenham fans.
When Andre Villas-Boas paid £26 million for Roberto Soldado in the summer, plenty were excited.
The Spaniard had an excellent goal record from his time in Spain with Valencia, and looked all set to take the Premier League by storm.
So who would have thought, in the first week of the New Year, we would find ourselves reading a stat that proves Arsenal misfit Nicklas Bendtner has bagged more goals in open play this season, than the second most expensive player in Tottenham’s history.
Soldado has managed a solitary strike from open play in 18 Premier League games, whilst Bendtner has managed two goals in eight.
Although, at least Soldado can take a good penalty…
