Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been seen on a less and less frequent basis in recent years. However, I should point out, ‘that’ night in Istanbul saw the tavern’s highest attendance ever.
Anyway, as this Premier League season has progressed the Brendan Rodgers army has, slowly but surely, started returning to the tavern – fickle bunch, ey?!
Ever since their gradual return, Liverpool supporting punters have acted like they’ve always been in the tavern supporting their club in their more barren years and that it was in fact a false accusation from the other punters that they haven’t been present.
The Chelsea regulars – who love nothing more than having a dig at the Reds – refused to let this drop and continued to mock the Liverpool customers insistence that they’ve always been constant in the tavern.
This obviously brought about the usual clichés of “We are the best fans in the world” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone is the greatest football song in the beautiful game.”
One Red then went on to make the point that, despite Jose Mourinho’s side beating Rodgers’ team 2-0, the fans remained in full voice in the tavern and at Anfield. However, Chelsea’s fickle mob (his words, not mine) were not seen in big numbers during their Champions League exit to Atletico Madrid.
