The fanfare surrounding Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil has yet to die down in the Football Transfer Tavern and I don’t expect it to anytime soon.
My landlord has even got carried away in the excitement of Ozil’s arrival to the Premier League and has renamed our ‘Tavern’s Beef Hotpot’ to ‘Mesut’s Beef Hotpot’. I know, it doesn’t work but I certainly won’t be telling him that.
During Halloween last week, we took lots of photographs of our punters all dressed up and have pinned the best ones up on our notice board, above the jukebox. My personal favourite was a customer who came in as Pierre van Hooijdonk!
Well, I was telling a customer this and he told me that, although our van Hooijdonk was good, it didn’t top a Mesut Ozil he had seen on a recent trip around South America.
Rather amusingly, I had to tell the embarrassed customer that the picture he was showing me wasn’t a costume but in fact just a fellow human being looking as they always do.
I still put the picture up on our notice board because the resemblance to the German international was uncanny.
