The Football Transfer, as always, screened ‘Super Sunday’ but due to our location, it meant that the tavern was full of Tottenham Hotspur fans.
The Spurs lot outnumbered the Manchester City punters 5 to 1, which meant, as I’m sure you can imagine, come 2:15pm the tavern was basically empty.
In the end, my landlord and I pulled up a stool each and watched the second half with only one or two interruptions from customers wanting refills.
The handful of City fans remained in full voice for the whole 90 minutes, while, come the final whistle, the rest of us sat in a sort of stunned silence.
Jeez. That was unexpected.
As I collected up a few glasses, one of the Citeh punters came over, waving a piece of paper and asked me to put this up somewhere in the tavern.
After getting my boss’ permission, I decided to blue tac the poster right above the exit door.
Spurs fans won’t be forgetting that result anytime soon…
