Here in the Football Transfer Tavern, we thought that our day could not get any funnier. We were wrong. As our landlord hands over the latest viral image to hit his phone, we crack up in fits of laughter!

The picture shows a moment from the game between Aston Villa and Tottenham last night in the Capital One Cup. It focuses on a moment between Jan Vertonghen and Nicklas Helenius in particular, after the Spurs defender managed to pull down the pants of Helenius in his quest to stop him from scoring as he embarked into the Lilywhites' penalty area.

It is not the attempt at goal from Helenius – in his underpants no less- that has gotten us talking however, but it is the failure of the officials in not awarding a penalty to the home side!

Given the two players who have won the most penalties in the Premier League are Ashley Young – a former Villa player – and Gabby Agbonlahor  - a current one, our landlord quips it may be time for Helenius to ask them for tips!

The lack of a foul was simply outrageous. The evidence of Vertonghen pulling the player back is there displayed in bright white for all to see. Literally!

Villa may have slumped to a rather worrying 4-0 home defeat, which once again made Spurs look like they will have a major say in the hunt for trophies this season, but it is not them who should be embarrassed. Nor, our punters note over their bar nibbles, is it Helenius. In fact it is the official who was pants!
