You think if someone leaves the country then that will be the last you hear of them.
That isn’t the case, however, with Gareth Bale who of course traded Tottenham for Real Madrid in a world record breaking deal this summer.
The Welsh international’s name was regularly banded around the Football Transfer Tavern this summer and I know a few of the punters were glad to see him set up a Nou Camp at the Bernabeu.
Anyway, ten minutes into my shift I’d already heard Bale’s name four times so I asked one of the regulars what was going on? Bale can’t be on the move yet, can he?
The cheeky bugger asks for a free pint before telling me what all the commotion is about and I duly oblige as I can’t say no to gossip.
Apparently there is a rather amusing spoof letter doing the rounds in the tavern involving Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy.
All I will say is, I hope Perez kept the receipt.
