One of the funniest moments of the season for us in the Football Transfer Tavern came during Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Fulham at Old Trafford yesterday.
Sir Alex Ferguson hasn’t been able to keep away from United since his retirement, despite their woeful form under David Moyes.
And yesterday he brought a friend along for the ‘home banker’ against bottom of the table Fulham.
None other than Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall.
Fergie had that smug smile we have been so used to seeing over the last 20 years all over his face for 82 minutes, after Michael Carrick’s deflected strike put United 2-1 up, and on course for 3 points. Mick looked pretty happy as well.
Fast forward to 94 minutes and 55 seconds, and Fergie has the look of a man who was not happy at the amount of stoppage time being played – after Darren Bent headed home to make it 2-2 on 94 minutes.
Mick meanwhile looks like he’s caught his reflection in a mirror.
Fairground is still a tune though.
