Spurs’ £31.5m bid for stunning Man United record breaker revealed

Martial 2

The Transfer Tavern has all of a sudden come over somewhat philosophical this evening, with both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur fans wondering what could have been following reports from Sport Witness (sourcing reports from France Football and L’Equipe)

Last summer saw the Red Devils splash out what could rise to £58m on little known teenage French forward Anthony Martial, who has since proved to be a shining light for the club this season.

It almost doesn’t bear thinking about for our United supporting locals what might have happened this season without the 20-year old marksman to lean on.

For the Spurs lot, however, it’s a tale of what might have been.

That’s because the report claims that the North London outfit also bid for the Les Blues forward when he was a Monaco player last summer.

A bid of €40m, equating to around £31.5m, is understood to have been lodged for the then 19-year old, though the French giants refused to sell at that time.

Just the mere notion of him up front with Harry Kane has our Tottenham fans in wonderland.

Valencia are also thought to have bid, though it was Old Trafford where the now 20-year old would eventually end up of course.

Would Martial arriving at the Lane have won Spurs the league this season?
