New Fulham boss Mark Hughes has admitted he would be interested in bringing Craig Bellamy to his new club. The former Manchester City boss said: “Yes, I’d be interested in signing Craig, he’s one of the top players in the Premier League.” With Bellamy confirmed to not be in Manchester City’s squad of twenty-five a move seems certain to be on the cards.
Bellamy isn’t the type of player to go through the motions playing with the reserves and pick up his wages every week, no matter how much he might be paid. Fulham seems his most likely destination.
He and Hughes have a close relationship, stretching back to when Hughes started his managerial career with the Wales national side. Bellamy signed for Blackburn when Hughes was manager, then he signed for City when Hughes took over the reigns there. He’s like a professional Mark Hughes stalker.
The fact is Bellamy isn’t going to play at City, and he’d be an excellent signing for Fulham. With a poor forward line, i.e. Eddie Johnson, Diomansy Kamara et al, Bellamy would give them a genuinely good striker. If Andy Johnson ever gets his fitness and form back they’d have a pretty frightening striking pair.
I’d put my house on him being at Fulham by the end of the transfer window. He isn’t going to play at City, he’s thirty-one and wants regular football, he’d probably marry Hughes given the chance and Fulham need a striker who’s going to make things happen. Bellamy will do that. Get a bet on him to move down south.
