The Daily Mail is reporting that Sporting Lisbon are targeting Spurs pair Roman Pavlyuchenko and Gareth Bale on loan and are ready to offer Spurs Miguel Veloso to appeal to Spurs. Spurs are said to want a transfer fee for Pavlyuchenko but Sporting are hoping the prospect of Veloso will make the deal appeaseable to Tottenham.
23-year-old Portugal midfielder Veloso is very highly rated and has been linked with a move to a big club for a few years and he would boost a Tottenham midfield which has impressed but could yet be improved. Many Spurs fans aren’t convinced that Tom Huddlestone shouldn’t be a regular starter and Veloso would take his role in the team alongside Wilson Palacios should the move take place.
Bale, 20, and Pavlyuchenko, 28, are both out of favour at Spurs and have been linked with moves away from the club but the North London side are unlikely to want to sell Bale before the African Cup of Nations has concluded with Benoit Assou-Ekotto to spend time away from the club. Pavlyuchenko meanwhile is the most unwanted man at the club but Spurs are eager to recoup most of the transfer fee paid for the player in selling him. Sporting will offer an £8 million future fee for Pavlyuchenko but it will depend on how he’d perform during the loan spell.
Sporting are 12 points off the top in Portugal and are eager to strengthen to close the gap with moves for Atletico Madrid’s Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Sporting Braga’s Joao Pereira already agreed and a deal for Manchester United’s Zoran Tosic on the cards.
