Young Boys striker Seydou Doumbia is the subject of strong interest from Tottenham according to the Daily Mirror. The 21-year-old is one of the most highly rated young African players and has already made appearances for the senior Ivory Coast team alongside Chelsea’s Didier Drogba.
German side Hoffenheim are also keen on the striker and have tabled an £8million bid that Spurs are considering matching. Redknapp has had the player scouted on a couple of occasions in recent weeks and is thought to be weighing up his options. Spurs current forward line of Jermaine Defoe and Peter Crouch is doing well, but Robbie Keane is out of form and Roman Pavlyuchenko is likely to leave the club during January. This would leave Redknapp short up front and a striker is very much on his wish-list for the transfer window.
The Ivory Coast striker has also been the subject of a bid from Russia’s Rubin Kazan recently and though the bid was accepted he was unwilling to move to Russia. Germany would be an attractive proposition but he is known to be willing to have discussions with Spurs if a bid is accepted from them. With the bid from Hoffenheim already on the table, Redknapp must make a quick decision on whether he wishes to take a gamble on a player untried in a top European league.
