It’s getting packed in the Football Transfer Tavern this Saturday afternoon and Metro journalist Danny Griffiths has just arrived with news that Tottenham are lining up a fresh bid for Shakhtar Donetsk striker Willian.
Griffiths reports that Spurs and Andre Villas-Boas have been spurred on by news that the Ukrainian club have signed talented midfielder Taison, who was also wanted by Premier League rivals Chelsea.
The 24-year-old joined Shakhtar from Metalist Kharkiv yesterday in a £12 million deal and Griffiths tells interested Spurs fans that this surprise deal could now mean William is sold this January transfer window.
The Brazilian star has admitted that he wants to play in the Premier League in the near future and Spurs are thought to be leading the race to snare his signature.
Villas-Boas is a known admirer of Willian and even tried to bring him to White Hart Lane during the summer but to no avail due to the £20 million valuation slapped on his head from the Donbass Arena-based side.
Spurs will now hope that the signing of Taison and an extra six months will have lowered this price significantly as his contract slowly comes to an end in the Ukraine.
