Spurs have no intention of selling versatile defender

Jan VertonghenTottenham fans feel reassured in the Football Transfer Tavern as their boss has insisted that their resilient defender is going nowhere in January.

According to talkSPORT, Mauricio Pochettino has ended speculation of Jan Vertonghen leaving the club in January.

The Belgian has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane with Manchester United said to be the most likely suitors to snap him up.

All the speculation has sparked from an incident in September when the 27-year-old said he would not sign an extension to his current deal, which he said expires in four years.

Vertonghen has surprisingly struggled to nail down a place in the Pochettino’s current side as the captain Younes Kaboul and Federico Fazio are beginning to form a partnership at the back.

But despite being in and out of the first 11, his boss insists he still has a future at White Hart Lane.

Pochettino said: “Jan is an important player for us and for me,” the Argentine boss said ahead of Spurs’ Europa League clash against Asteras Tripolis on Thursday night.

“I know sometimes the players are affected by the rumours and comments. For me I don’t read the speculation and he’s a very good and key player for us.”
