Tottenham Hotspur have joined a number of clubs, including Liverpool, who are interested in signing Atletico Madrid winger Maxi Rodriguez according to The Daily Mail. The Argentinean international’s contract expires at the end of this season and Atletico are ready to cash in on their captain to prevent the loss of him on a free transfer come the summer.
In a bid to pip their opponents to the signing of Maxi, Spurs have offered Atletico unwanted right winger David Bentley with the suggestion being that both players would join the other club on loan with a view to a permanent move. Spurs are hoping that the offer of a former England international winger in return for the Argentine will make Atletico see their offer as the most appealing.
A potential setback though is Atletico’s want for money for the midfielder; the Spanish club are believed to be low on money and are after any cash they can bring in. Their reason for selling Maxi being to make money off him before he can leave, a loan deal would not suit them as he could then leave on a free when the summer arrives.
Another obstacle in Spurs getting the player is that Maxi is highly unlikely to want to play second fiddle to Aaron Lennon and will not be a player who’s happy to sit on the bench given his first team credentials at Atletico.
