Tottenham Hotspur are ready to launch a fresh bid for 23-year-old Portugal midfielder Miguel Veloso from Sporting Lisbon. Spurs have been linked with a move for Veloso in the past but the move never materialised. The Times reports that Veloso has now changed agents though in a bid to get a move to a bigger club following a failed transfer to Bolton last summer and is thought to be very interested in a Premiership move.
Spurs have turned their eyes towards Veloso again after he scored in the Portuguese Cup at the weekend, reminding suitors that – despite being a defensive midfielder – he can offer an attacking threat to prove an all-rounder. Spurs had previously been linked with a loan swap involving Veloso, Gareth Bale and Roman Pavlyuchenko but Spurs are reportedly more interested in signing Veloso independently and selling off the others.
Interest in Veloso is high though and Spurs will have to fight off the likes of Barcelona and arch-rivals Arsenal if they want to get their hands on the Portuguese dynamo. Veloso has been linked to a host of other big clubs in the past, including Manchester United, all of whom could re-ignite their interest should he become available.
Sporting are said to be lining up a move for Rangers midfielder Pedro Mendes as a replacement for Veloso should he go.
