Spurs on alert as Madrid look to offload midfielder to fund huge Mbappe bid

It’s been a quiet summer of transfer activity so far for Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino, who will surely have his eye on a number of transfer targets as the summer drags on.

Spurs need to start bringing in some players as their rivals next season start to add some big names to players in their teams.

Manchester United, Everton and Manchester City have probably been the biggest spenders so far and the Spurs fans lining the bar here in the Transfer Tavern are now waiting on their manager to start splashing the cash.

But according to the Evening Standard, additions down at Wembley might not be too far away as Spurs consider a move for Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

The Croatian international is out of favour at the Bernabeu and is reportedly keen to move on this summer in a last-ditch pusuit of first-team football.

Kovacic made just 19 starts in La Liga last season and widely understudies fellow countryman Luka Modric.

Wages could be an issue for Spurs as they look to control a strick wage bill at the club but it’s thought any money recouped for the Croatian will be put towards a world-record bid for Monaco striker Kyllian Mbappe, who has been tracked by Madrid all summer.
