There’s a few raised eyebrows around the Football Transfer Tavern today after Metro report that Tottenham are preparing to step up their chase for highly rated Colombian international striker Jackson Martinez of Porto.
Everyone knows that Spurs are looking to bring at least two strikers to their squad their summer and according to sources close to the club they have outlined Martinez and Barcelona striker David Villa as their main summer transfer targets.
And today reports emerging from Portugal indicate that the North London club have made a bid of around £25 million for the 26-year-old, who scored an sensational 26 goals in 27 appearances last year.
The forward is under contract with his current club until 2016 and he is thought to have a release clause of around £35 million but Villas-Boas hopes to persuade his old side to let him leave for a lot less.
The signings of Martinez and Villa would be a statement of intent from the Portuguese boss as he tries to secure Champions League football next season and also tries to influence star man Gareth Bale to remain with the club.
Will AVB land the Porto star? Are Martinez and Villa the men to fire Spurs into the Champions League? Rate this rumour below.
