Here at the Football Transfer Tavern jaws have dropped at the news coming from the London Evening standard that Spurs are set to offer Gareth Bale an astronomical deal to keep him at the club.
The midfielder is on everyone’s most wanted list at the minute and is attracting serious interest from Real Madrid who have claimed that they are in a position to buy him. Add to this the comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi and Spurs are aware that they have quite a player on their hands.
Bale is currently contracted until 2016 yet is only receiving £75,000-a-week in wages. What Spurs want to do is offer him an improved and extended deal for around £130,000 per week to attempt to keep him in North London. The club are hopeful that they can keep hold of him for at least one more season.
A move seems inevitable for Bale yet getting that elusive top four spot would go a long way to keeping the Welshman and that is something Andre Villas-Boas wants to make sure of. Not only this but the club are after some top talent in the summer and think this again will go a way to keeping the midfielder at the club. Most fans wouldn’t argue with the fact that Bale has earned a payrise after his scintillating form this term and with his recent celebrations revealing the true passion he has for the club, perhaps staying this summer is a real option after all.
