Spurs plan to hijack Newcastle move for striker

It looks like we could have another transfer battle on our hands in the Football Transfer Tavern after talkSPORT report that Tottenham could beat Newcastle United to the signing of French international Loic Remy.

It was claimed yesterday that Remy was ready to move to St. James’ Park for £10 million in January as a direct replacement for the unsettled Demba Ba, however it now seems that Tottenham could make a last ditch attempt to capture their long-term transfer target.

Andre Villas-Boas is thought to want extra competition up front with just Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Abebayor remaining at the club in attack and the White Hart Lane club have been linked with Remy for the past two seasons, even making an offer on summer transfer deadline day.

Remy should be available for around £10 million after refusing to agree a new contract with his club side Marseille and although Newcastle remain favourites to sign the forward, Tottenham have now firmly joined the race to land the striker.

Spurs or Newcastle? Who will be the perfect Rem-edy? Vote in our polls below.
