Tottenham supporters have been reasonably upbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side bring their excellent Champions League group stage campaign to an end with a comfortable 3-0 win over Cypriot outfit Apoel Nicosia at Wembley.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men have struggled somewhat domestically with just one victory from their last six Premier League matches, but have certainly proven their worth in European competition by winning Group H ahead of current holders Real Madrid, as well as 2013 runners-up Borussia Dortmund. And they finished their group stage campaign with an easy win at the national stadium as goals from Fernando Llorente, Son Heung-min, and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou sealed a comprehensive success for Pochettino’s side.
Subsequently, there have been many satisfied Spurs fans in the Tavern this week, and they may be further encouraged by a recent report from Calcio Mercato, which suggests that the North London outfit are set to reignite their interest in AC Milan midfielder Suso, having reportedly attempted to land him during the summer.
The 24-year-old came up through the ranks at Liverpool but only went on to make 21 first team appearances for the Reds, before moving on to Italian giants Milan in the summer of 2015 in a bid to kickstart his career.
And that’s something the Spain international has done by netting 13 goals and laying on 18 assists in 66 games for the Serie A club, six goals and six assists of which have come in his flying start to this season.
And it’s incredible form which reportedly attracted the attention of both Spurs and indeed Liverpool over the summer, yet recent reports suggest that Pochettino’s Spurs, who could be on the lookout for reinforcements in their bid to improve their domestic form in the second half of the campaign, are seeking to reignite their interest in the young midfielder in January.
And given Milan’s current struggles – they are eighth in Serie A and 18 points adrift of leaders Juventus – Spurs may well be able to lure him away from the San Siro in the New Year.
Landlord’s verdict: It didn’t quite work out for Suso at Liverpool, who came up through the ranks at Anfield but only went on to play 21 times for the first team before moving to AC Milan in 2015.
And the 24-year-old has since gone from strength to strength with 13 goals and 18 assists in 66 games for the Italian giants, six goals and six assists of which coming this term in form which has reportedly attracted the interest of Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham.
Spurs were also thought to be interested in the one-time Spain international over the summer while ex-employers Liverpool were also linked with him last month, yet with Pochettino’s men stuck in somewhat of a rut in the Premier League at present, reinforcements may be needed in January to improve their domestic form, and Suso could be that man in what could be his chance to prove himself in English football once again.
