Spurs Set To Snap Up £10M Man – The Prem’s Most Sought After Secret Weapon

He may have scored a goal over the weekend but the end is in sight for Joe Cole at Anfield, and it appears he may be scurrying back to the capital again very soon.

Our friends at The Sun are reporting that the former England man will be part of a mass exodus from Anfield this Summer, and they suggest he could be bound for different clubs in London.

When Cole signed for Liverpool at the start of the season it was considered somewhat of a coup, the side had been pretty poor the previous year and the arrival of Roy Hodgson was meant to signal somewhat of a revival, a fresh start, and Joe Cole was just part of that.

Things never really panned out though, after he was sent off on his debut, niggling injuries kept him out of the side.  When he was close to fitness again, the man that had taken him to the club had been relieved of his job.  Kenny Dalglish has mostly used him as a substitute although he did start most of the clubs Europa League games.

With the resurgant Liverpool under the guidance of Dalglish and Comolli it looks as if the tricky midfielder will be even more surplus to requirements next season, a club insider told The Sun:

“It’s tough on Joe because he is a great kid. But things just haven’t worked out for him….Kenny is building a new Liverpool with the likes of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez and he wants to bring in more new players in the summer….And, unfortunately, that means Joe will be surplus to requirements.”.

The caliber of player that Liverpool are now looking at is far above the level to which Joe Cole is currently playing and it is therefore no surprise that comments like these are doing the rounds.  The newspaper goes on to claim that the Anfield club would require £10million for the £100,000 a week midfielder, which isn’t a bad bit of business considering they paid nothing for him last Summer.

The clubs supposedly interested are Tottenham and former club West Ham.  Clearly the Hammers interest will be dependent on them surviving their current fight against relegation, and even then I am not sure that it would be wise sinking such a lot of money into a 29 year old, even if he is one of their own.

Tottenham were close to signing Cole last Summer but eventually the player chose Merseyside over North London, this time round however I don’t think he is such an attractive proposition to the Spurs faithful.  Harry Redknapp clearly see’s something in the player, but I can’t help think that someone not deemed good enough for Liverpool is also therefore not good enough for Tottenham and when you consider they will probably sell Niko Kranjcar this Summer who in my opinion is a far better player than Cole, it makes even less sense.

Whatever happens this one might be worth following, Cole’s future definitely lies away from Anfield, but I am personally not so sure that it lies at either of these two clubs either.
