It was only the start of the season when we at the Football Transfer Tavern were convinced that Michael Dawson would be leaving Tottenham Hotspur, yet now Goal.com claim he may well be about to do the complete opposite by penning a new deal at White Hart Lane.
The defender has been praised by Andre Villas-Boas in recent weeks and has managed to work his way back into the first team, becoming a vital part of the side. Spurs are now set to reward him with a new deal that will keep the former Nottingham Forest defender at the club until he is 33.
Dawson is currently 29 and under contract until 2015 yet a four-year deal is on the table along with the option to increase his wages by around £20,000 per week. Goal.com claim they have been told that: “Spurs appreciate that Michael deserves to be recognised for his service to the club.”
England international Dawson who has been capped four times by the Three Lions has become one of the first names on Spurs’ team sheet and here in the tavern Lilywhites fans are breathing a sigh of relief that he turned down a move to QPR in the summer just gone. Dawson has been at the club since 2005 and has taken over the role of skipper admirably after the premature retirement of Ledley King.
Spurs fans. Do you still rate Dawson as highly as ever? Let us know your thoughts below.
