Tottenham didn't sign anyone over the summer, and it's showing. After a decent start to the season, the Lilywhites have fallen off the wagon in pretty dramatic fashion. Though a win or two in recent weeks have papered over the cracks, they were outclassed by Barcelona on Wednesday night, and that proved, once again, the size of the task at Mauricio Pochettino's door.

Clearly, they are feeling the effects of a lack of investment over the summer, with the teams around them improving whilst they stayed static. That's something that cannot be allowed to continue, as if the club don't improve in January, they could miss out on a title challenge or even worse come next May.

Fortunately, the club appear to be eager to make an early start to transfer proceedings. At least, they are said to be keeping an eye on at least one potential target. According to the Mirror, the Lilywhites are keeping track of PSV attacker Hirving Lozano. Significantly, as the publication reports, Tottenham have had a lot of success looking to the Eredivisie in recent years, and in Lozano, the club may be able to find a player that has the potential to have an impact similar to that of Christian Eriksen at Spurs.

After all, Eriksen was young and inexperienced when he moved to Tottenham, and at 23-years-old, Lozano is equally a player that has maximum potential, but lacks the proven quality at the highest level. They also share a similar position in the attack. That said, as individuals, they are very different indeed.

Lozano became familiar with many football fans over the summer for his exploits with his native Mexico. Picking 1 goal and 1 assist in just 4 games for Mexico, it was his overall play that impressed above anything else. Dominating the attack and always looking deadly, the way that he was able to control games for his country indicated that he was a player of the highest quality.

He's further reflected that with the 5 goals and 1 assist that he's bagged in just 7 games in the Eredivisie this term, and he's quickly looking as though he has seriously outgrown the Dutch top flight - much like Eriksen did all those years ago. Possessing incredible passing, dribbling, set-piece taking and, naturally, goalscoring, there is nothing that Lozano can't do. He'd add some real quality to the Spurs attack.

In Christian Eriksen, Spurs have grown the Dane into one of Europe's best attacking midfielders. Lozano is showing the same flair as he did when he was young, and Mauricio Pochettino could have the same impact - provided that Spurs make their move.
