Reports suggest today that Tottenham are after the best attacking right back in Spain – no, not Dani Alves, but Athletic Bilbao’s Andoni Iraola.
Iraola, out of contract in 2012, has a price tag of £25 million but it looks as if Spurs will make an audacious attempt to steal away the La Liga star, hopefully negotiating a significantly lower transfer fee.
But would Iraola, who has a knack for scoring and can fly up and down the right wing, fit in at Spurs? He is a player of some quality but do Spurs need this with Gareth Bale and Assou-Ekotto on the other flank? And what does this mean for Alan Hutton?
Or is it simply too good for Spurs to miss out on? A Spain international for, potentially, as little as £12 million? Has Harry Redknapp got transfer withdrawal symptoms and felt the need to enquire about someone for the January window?
Let’s wait and see if Iraola can get tempted to White Hart Lane as Spurs try to build that Champions League squad.
