Pienaar has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park for some months, with Tottenham seemingly at the head of the queue, after having had negotiations over a contract extension stall.
It is believed that Pienaar has recieved a very strong contract offer from the Merseyside club, but if both parties fail to agree terms, a number of sides, including Spurs, could be waiting in the wings to make a move for the former Ajax player.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is said to be a big fan of the South African and it has been reported in some media circles that the club had made an initial bid of £2 million bid for Pienaar, but it is thought that as it stands, the North London outfit have merely lodged an enquiry regarding a possible move for the player, leaving the ball firmly in the Toffee’s court as to whether a deal could possibly take place.
With midfielder Jermaine Jenas being constantly linked with a transfer day deadline move to Stoke, Redknapp could be looking to secure a deal for the Everton player to ensure they have more than enough options in the middle of the park.
Redknapp had recently declared that he was more than happy with his current squad, but after reaching the Champions League group stages and along with their domestic responsibilities, one of two new additions to the side could be just whats needed to unsure success in all competitions.
On the way into Spurs just about 40 minutes ago, Harry Redknapp said that deals were still possible but unlikely. Harry was in an improved mood after his four letter outburst yesterday and when asked if there was one big name he wanted, he smiled and said they were still waiting on an answer from Lionel.
What would have been brilliant of course is Redknapp finishing the conversation with a cheeky, ‘Now f*** off’ and a wink. But you can’t have it all, eh?
