Newcastle have registered just one point in the Premier League so far this season.
Rafael Benitez was not given funds to significantly strengthen his squad during the summer, and the Magpies were handed a tough set of opening fixtures. Benitez’s side have just one point on the board against Cardiff City following defeats against Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea. Things did not get any easier with Arsenal up next for the Tynesiders, who fell to a 1-2 home defeat to the hands of the Gunners.
Despite the transfer window being shut, Benitez should still be monitoring potential January recruits. One man who would be an inspired addition is FC Porto star – Yacine Brahimi. Valued at £23.4m by Transfermarkt, the 28-year-old has been a critical player for his team since joining from Granada back in 2014. Brahimi was a key player during Porto’s title win last season, making 49 appearances in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and registering ten assists. Despite his impressive form, Brahimi has less than one year remaining on his contract meaning Newcastle could grab a bargain in January.
The Algerian isn’t blessed with tremendous pace but uses his excellent technical ability to beat his man. His close control and skill set allowed him to average an incredible 5.1 successful dribbles per game last season – no Premier League player averaged more last season – which highlights his expert ability on the ball. Brahimi is capable of the wing but can also play as a number ten and would help bring Rondon into the game.
Landing his signature can be the catalyst for a revival at St. James Park.
