Poor old David Moyes. The Manchester United manager must not have a clue what’s going on!
In any of the previous eleven seasons he’s spent as a top flight manager, he would have been doing backflips over a start to the season which saw him complete a £27 million signing and pick up four points from an opening three fixtures that saw trips to Swansea City and Liverpool and a home fixture with Chelsea.
Despite those circumstances, Moyes finds himself under fire and the butt of other supporters jokes on a constant basis – despite not doing too much wrong.
The fact of the matter is that he is now managing the Premier League champions, and anyone who is not a United fan will probably want to see him fail.
United fans themselves find themselves in strange territory. When was the last summer they failed to land their top transfer target? When was the last time they failed to score in two consecutive games?
It’s hardly a disaster, but it’s been far from the ideal start for David Moyes. Perhaps he would be better served looking at the statistics in order to get things moving in the right direction.
As the picture below shows, Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa has by far and away the most impressive Premier League goal scoring statistics of any of his fellow midfielders last season – albeit stats Chelsea’s Frank Lampard would be laughing at – but is still mysteriously yet to get a start this season.
“Please ask David Moyes why I’m not in the side”, Kagawa said whilst on international duty recently.
“It is frustrating not playing but to score a goal like that gives me confidence. Hopefully I can take that back to my club with me and things will improve.”
Maybe a start for the Japanese international against Crystal Palace on Saturday will change Moyes’s fortunes?
