Newcastle United

Staveley has one big transfer task if she is going to save Newcastle United – Agreed?

The Toon Army in the Transfer Tavern are becoming increasingly concerned with their sides abysmal run of form of late.

Newcastle United started the Premier League season in commendable form on their return to the English top-flight, but their top work in the early encounters of the season has been undone by their slump in recent weeks. Rafa Benitez’s side have won just once in their last thirteen league fixtures – a run which has seen them drop into 16th position in the league table, just 1 point above the relegation zone. At present, The Magpies have problems across all areas of the pitch, and they will need to strengthen in January to give themselves a genuine boost in their push for survival.

Goalscorers are often the difference between a relegation-threatened side and a mid-table side, so Newcastle should be looking to sign a proven striker in the mid-season window.

However, Newcastle may well need to let a striker leave the club before they can welcome another, as according to reports in The Daily Mail, Benitez has offered the services of Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic to league rivals West Ham United.

If reports in The Daily Mail prove to be true, then Newcastle’s owner, whether it be Mike Ashley or Amanda Staveley, will need to invest heavily in a striker during the January window.

Benitez has rarely called upon Mitrovic so far this season as Joselu and Dwight Gayle have been preferred, but that is not to say that the services of the hot-headed Serbian will not be required for the duration of the campaign.

Mitrovic is one of only three recognised strikers at the club on Tyneside which could prove to be a problem following a succession of unfortunate injuries in this position.

If Newcastle decide to offload the former Anderlecht prospect to West Ham, then they will be left with only two recognised strikers at the club.

Over the course of the season, that number will certainly prove to be insufficient whether as a result of poor form, injury, or suspension, so it is imperative that Newcastle secure the signature of a quality striker to replace Mitrovic and breathe some life back into their attacking line-up.
