‘Stay forever’ – Man Utd fans are desperate for £54m-rated ace to be at Old Trafford next season

David De Gea is, unsurprisingly, a real favourite amongst the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern. The Spaniard has been one of Man Utd’s most important players over the last few years, and he has now emerged as one of Europe’s best goalkeepers.

Man Utd’s season has been far from perfect, but it could have been a lot worse if the Spaniard – who is rated at £54 million by Transfer Markt – was not between the sticks. He’s saved them on more than one occasion so far this term, and for that, Jose Mourinho will be very grateful.

What’s more, at just 27-years-old, the Spaniard is arguably not yet at his peak, meaning that the Red Devils still have quite a few years left of him at his best.

It’s no surprise, then, that supporters are desperate for him to stay at Old Trafford for as long as possible, and a recent quote from the goalkeeper has left the Man Utd fans over on Reddit feeling more hopeful than ever that he’s going to be doing exactly that.

De Gea has recently been discussing his life in England, and he has revealed that he is settled in the country.

According to Goal, he said: “In England I have a great affection and respect that I do not notice so much here [in Spain]”.

Though, clearly, this is far from confirmation that he’s ready to stay at Old Trafford for the long-haul, it does suggest that he’s happy in England – and so it seems unlikely that he will look to force a move away.

In light of the comments, the Man Utd fans over on the Red Devils Subreddit page have been discussing De Gea, and it’s fair to say that most are taking his words as a sign that he wants to stay long-term. Unsurprisingly, they’re pretty excited about it.

Take a look at what they’ve had to say below…
