Many of West Ham’s key men have underperformed this season. Manuel Pellegrini’s job seems to be getting tougher every week, owing to poor results, and a recent blow in the form of an injury to Andriy Yarmalenko has left them in an even more difficult spot.
It means that the Hammers have even fewer options going forward in an attack that has thus far failed to deliver the goods.
And with the international break not open for another few months, that means Pellegrini will have to rely on the players that are already within his squad as he looks to build a solid base in the Premier League.
For that to happen, though, he needs his players to improve drastically, and in light of the blow to Yarmolenko, these 2 West Ham men seriously need to improve their games…
Felipe Anderson has been good since he moved to West Ham. In fact, he’s probably been one of their better players, all told. But he has been as good as he can be? Well, on that one, the jury is still out.
He was a star during his time in Serie A, and he was often one of the most impressive attackers in the division. He’s not even close to that level yet, though.
He’s been a tad inconsistent, and with just 1 goal and 1 assist, it’s fair to say that’s reflected by his stats, too.
The Brazilian’s technical ability and offensive energy will need to be increased in order for the Hammers to cope with the loss in mobility in their attack stemming to Yarmolenko’s absence.
Michail Antonio’s career at West Ham has been in a constant state of uncertainty.
He’s fallen in significance considerably since the days of his England call-up, and he’s started just 4 league games for the Hammers so far this season.
The absence of Yarmolenko could be seen as a bit of a lifeline for him, as it’s hard to have seen the Englishman in the team were the Ukranian fit and available.
He used to be a regular goalscorer and a contributor at both ends of the field; and it’s time for him to regain that form.
If he struggles before January, it seems likely that a replacement will be brought in – so he’s in a race against time to up his game and prove his worth
