Steven Gerrard made it clear that he intended on strengthening the Rangers defence when he arrived at Ibrox as the new manager.
The Light Blues have added significantly to their defensive ranks and the improvements have been for all to see, with the likes of Nikola Katic, Connor Goldson and Joe Worrall all featuring, as well as Gareth McAuley being called upon for his veteran experience.
Despite some concerning results along the way, the Gers have certainly got better under Gerrard’s guidance and have been enjoying what looks like a bright future under the Liverpool legend.
It is understood that the Chelsea talent met with Gerrard and held talks about a possible switch to Ibrox, but revealed that he had made the choice to head to the Eredivisie and turn out for Vitesse Arnhem.
Clarke-Salter could have been an excellent addition for the Gers as well, as he looks to be enjoying himself with Vitesse in Holland, putting in some impressive performances along the way.
Rangers had managed to significantly improve their defence during the summer transfer window, with Gerrard making it his priority.
With the signings he did make, missing out on the 21-year-old may not be too concerning for the Ibrox outfit, although time will surely tell on how well both do throughout the year.
