The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been urging the club to sign Declan Rice on a new deal this summer. The Irish centre-back has been of the club’s best players over the last 12 months and the fans have made a new contract for him a priority, although the club’s board apparently (via the Evening Standard) don’t view it with the same importance.
The 19-year-old defender has been in stunning for the Hammers and has held his own alongside the likes of Angelo Ogbonna and Winston Reid this season as West Ham secured safety with two games to spare in the Premier League, meaning they’ll be playing football in the top flight again next season. The fans don’t think that’s good enough as they want to keep their best players whilst in the Premier League, and Rice falls into that category.
The youngster has been tipped for big things in his career, whether that’s at The London Stadium or away from it. At the age of 19, he still has a chance to make it big wherever he wants and his ability looks to be limitless from what we’ve seen so far in his career. The only real mistake we’ve seen him make was away at Arsenal, where he took full responsibility and looked to learn from the error that led to an Arsenal goal in the 4-1 loss.

8k a week for Declan Rice……why not just stick a “for sale” sign on his head

Rice set to be given a new contract, club confident he will sign but need to improve their offer
— J D (@Irons_42) June 7, 2018
When was he offered the 8k? Is that recent or was it before his run in the team? Maybe they’re worried they’ll get burnt like when they gave Oxford more and look what happened to him since. Altho Rice seems to have the right attitude. You’d pay 25 mill at least to sign Rice.

Announce Lanzini and Rice contracts

€25m for Joao Mario
€38m for Felipe Anderson
Proper contract for Rice
Get it done West Ham, don’t lose the chance to be better
— El Hombre Verde (@JrTheSavior87) 7 June 2018
West Ham would be gutted to lose such a talent like Rice and the importance of getting him tied down to a new deal couldn’t be higher, with the future of the club’s defence riding on his shoulders.
