There aren’t many names that are more popular amongst the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern than Didier Drogba. The Ivorian is undoubtedly one of the names that gets fans smiling more than any other.
Signed from Marseille in 2004, Drogba was one of the many big names that was brought to Stamford Bridge during the early days of Roman Abramovich’s tenure, and he ended up being one of the best.
The Ivorian had a slow start, but he quickly emerged as arguably one of Chelsea’s best – leading the line with brilliant pace, power and quality.
Showing unrivalled passion and determination, it was a sad day when he left Stamford Bridge after the 2012 Champions League final.
Fortunately for Chelsea fans, he returned just two years later to offer further depth going forward for the Blues – and it’s fair to say that his return was a huge success.
Chelsea regained the Premier League during his stint, and he played a pretty important part in that success.
They’ve posted a message, which can be seen below, reflecting on his departure.

As they often do, Chelsea fans have been quick to reply to the message – and many of them are seemingly missing the Ivorian. As one fan puts it, Chelsea haven’t really ever replaced him – and that has cost them over the last year.
Take a look at what they’ve had to say below…
3 years later we still haven’t replaced him, I hope we can this summer, huge gap to fill

I missed you so much @didierdrogba. My most favourite player to have ever play the round leather game.
