The West Ham United fans who are gathered at the bar in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports linking one of their defenders with a move away from the club.
The Daily Mail is reporting that both Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion have joined the race to sign James Tomkins this summer.
The 25 year old only signed a new deal with West Ham last summer but it appears that a lack of impressive performances for the side last season could spell the end of his time at the club.
Tomkins is a popular figure with the West Ham fans having come through the club’s youth ranks.
The versatile defender can play at centre back or in the right and interest in him this summer is high with both Crystal Palace and Sunderland interested in taking the player to their respective club’s.
He made 25 appearances for a West Ham side which finished 7th in the Premier League last season and qualified for the Europa League qualifying stage which starts next month.
Would Tomkins be a big loss for West Ham? Let us know in the comments below!
