Stoke City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are delighted to hear in the Daily Mirror that Mark Hughes is planning to sign Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor.
He will be a fitting replacement for Bojan Krkic who is out for the rest of the season following a knee injury incurred at Rochdale in the FA Cup recently.
Despite Spurs being more than willing to allow Adebayor to go out on loan, there is still a stumbling block because the Potters will have to match his £100,000-a-week wages.
Mark Hughes is supposedly desperate to work with the Togo international once again after he managing him at City back in 2009 and this personal touch could prove vital in negotiations.
Talking about Adebayor earlier this season, Hughes said: “He wasn’t difficult. I liked him as a guy, I thought he was a good character.
“He has size, pace, power and ability on the ball. He’s the whole package when he wants to be.”
It will be a tough ask for Stoke to sign him by the time the transfer window shuts at 11pm tonight but Adebayor will be more than aware that his chances at White Hart Lane are limited.
