The Stoke City fans over by the fruit machines might have hit the jackpot after hearing that Jack Butland is close to agreeing a new five-year deal, according to The Telegraph.
The England international goalkeeper is believed to be in advanced talks regarding his future having had an excellent season so far, having kept ten clean sheets and conceding just 36 goals so far this term.
The 23-year old has stepped up his performances since the departure of Asmir Begovic, with word around the Tavern indicating that Potters manager Mark Hughes personally suggested that the goalkeeper be offered an extension.
The reports will come as great news for our resident Stoke fans, who were concerned by the fact that Butland has been scouted by Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United in recent seasons.
Stoke manager Mark Hughes was recently reported as saying: “It’s still early days for Jack – he hasn’t had a period where his form has plateaued and that can happen to a young ‘keeper.
“But I just think his manner is very calm and those periods will be few and far between.
“Jack signed a long-term deal last year but that was just prior to the situation we had with Asmir. At that point Jack wasn’t the confirmed No 1 which he is now – circumstances have changed and that’s the thinking behind revisiting the contract situation.”
