The Stoke fans in the Transfer Tavern tonight will surely be hoping Mark Hughes can bring a new main striker to their club.
Stoke City’s top scorer last season was 36-year-old Peter Crouch who managed ten goals in all competitions.
That is not good enough.
Stoke are in desperate need of a forward who can guarantee at least 15 league goals a season.
They only managed a handful more goals than Hull City who ended up relegated, this needs to change or else they could be in trouble.
Seemingly lining up perfectly with their striker woes, Olivier Giroud looks to be on his way out of The Emirates with rumours linking him to both West Ham and Everton surfacing in recent weeks.
It has even been reported that German side, Borussia Dortmund are after him.
So why shouldn’t Mark Hughes at least enquire about the forward.
The Everton and West Ham rumours have died down recently so if Giroud wants to stay in England, Stoke could be his only option should they put an offer in.
Whilst Arsenal have upgraded to a new striker, that’s not to say Giroud isn’t a capable forward, the Gunners just didn’t play to his strengths.
Stoke can do that as they wouldn’t have to change much from having Crouch up top and what an upgrade that would be for the Potters.
Putting in an offer couldn’t hurt and given that there haven’t been many stand-out transfers from Mark Hughes during this window, Giroud could be the perfect player to boost his side’s morale and get them prepared for the season ahead.
