The Stoke City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are hoping that he can still make it…
Xherdan Shaqiri is undoubtedly Stoke’s most important player, and so an audible gasp overtook the Tavern earlier today when Stoke boss Mark Hughes revealed that the talented attacker could be set to miss the Potters’ crunch clash against West Ham this weekend.
According to the Daily Star, speaking ahead of the game Hughes said: “He’s got a little bit of damage with the hamstring and…he’s struggling to be available”.
“He hasn’t trained all week”, Hughes confirmed.
Hughes did give the Stoke fans in the Football Transfer Tavern reason to be hopeful, though: “He’s had that before and been able to play the following game, but we have got a little bit less time”.
The Potters fans in the Tavern don’t know what to make of this. On the one hand, Shaqiri hasn’t trained all week, which would suggest that he is not ready – but Mark Hughes seemingly is holding out hope.
Either way, our landlord thinks that this is a huge blow for Stoke. Whatever happens, Shaqiri isn’t going to be 100% for the game – and that can only be a bad thing for the Potters.
The West Ham fans in the Tavern think that they’ve got a real chance to pick up a win, here. It won’t be easy though, given the fine form that Stoke have been in. Mark Hughes will be looking to pick up his 4th consecutive victory.
