A report in the Express has made interesting reading for Everton fans today here in the Transfer Tavern, as it reports that Steven Naismith nearly left the club in the summer.
The Scotland attacker scored a hat-trick against current Champions Chelsea as they bowled over their opponents 3-1 this weekend, and our Everton fans have been thanking the heavens that they didn’t let him go this summer.
The 28-year-old was said to be subject to a £5m bid from fellow Premier League team, Norwich and he has admitted he would have been tempted to move to the East Anglia club had the Toffees accepted the offer.
Naismith has struggled to hold down a regular starting position at Everton since his move to the Merseyside club which has made him consider his future at the club.
Now however, although he is happy he is wanted at the club is keen to get as much game time under his belt at possible, and with his recent display this weekend their is no reason he cant now kick on
Our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern feels that Naismith is an incredibly underrated striker, and feels that the player should be a regular starter in Roberto Martinez’s starting XI’s.
Everton fans. Does this news shock you? Are you as relieved he stayed? Let us know what you think below!
