Metro have claimed that Arsenal are not looking to dip into the transfer window this winter – at least not for a forward – and we in the Football Transfer Tavern want to know why.
Our landlord notes that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has become increasingly impressed with Olivier Giroud, and despite the growing injury problems at the club, the manager is keen on keeping the players he has and putting his faith in Giroud.
Over a rather late beer and a burger, we are filled in on just what the Gunners’ manager thinks.
“People want always new names, but what is important for us is that Giroud is back,’ said Wenger.
“He was a bit tired recently, but now he is refreshed and I’m sure he will have a major impact on the second part of the season.
“When you speak to the coaches after the game, they say “oh, what a client he is”.
“Giroud has qualities that the rest of the squad has not got, he always gives us that strength.
“We have small players who combine quickly, so to find someone who can hold it, keep the ball, make some room for other players, he does that very well and gives us a very good balance.”
The majority of Arsenal supporters in the tavern still believe that the club should swoop for striking reinforcements and the likes of Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.
As our landlord notes, Arsenal are not the only club who are in need of a forward this winter. Chelsea fans are getting increasingly worried about the lack of activity Jose Mourinho has been involved in this January so far.
